Levels of Higher Education Study
Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra provides higher education on all three levels, allowing the graduates to receive undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate tertiary education.
The Bachelor's degree represents the first level of higher education study. Within the Bachelor’s study, the students gain theoretical knowledge in the selected major/study program, which corresponds to the current state of scientific knowledge in the relevant field of study, and/or majors in the case of interdisciplinary studies, and practical skills and competences for professional employment. The University currently offers academically focused Bachelor's study programs. This study creates the standard prerequisites to continue to the second level of university study. The standard length of full-time undergraduate programs at UKF is 3 years and the part-time programs usually span over the period of 4 years. The graduation depends on the state exam, which includes the defense of a Bachelor's thesis. The graduates receive a Bachelor's degree (abbreviated as "Bc.").
The Master's degree represents the second level of higher education study. Within the Master’s study, the students gain theoretical knowledge in the selected major/study program, which corresponds to the current state of scientific knowledge and/or technical or artistic knowledge in the relevant field of study, and/or majors in the case of interdisciplinary studies, and practical skills and competences for the creative use of this knowledge in their job career. This study creates the preconditions to continue to the third level of university study. The standard length of full-time graduate programs at UKF is 2 years and the part-time programs usually span over the period of 3 years. Again, the graduation depends on the state exam, which includes the defense of a Master’s thesis. The graduates receive a Master's degree (abbreviated as "Mgr.").
The Doctoral degree represents the third level of higher education study. Within the Doctoral study, the students gain theoretical knowledge in the selected study program, which corresponds to the current state of scientific knowledge and/or technical or artistic knowledge in the relevant field of study and the capacity to plan and carry out scientific research and independent creative activities in the relevant field of study, including the review of results of own creative and research activities in a published format. The standard length of full-time postgraduate programs at UKF is 3 or 4 years and the part-time programs usually span over the period of 5 years. The graduation depends on the dissertation exam and a successful defense of the doctoral thesis. The graduates receive a Philosophiae Doctor degree (abbreviated as "PhD.").
