Creative Workshop "The Art of Words" at the Faculty of Education

As part of the Week of Science and Technology in Slovakia, a creative workshop called The Art of Words was held on November 14, 2024 at the Department of English Language and Culture of the Faculty of Education CPU. Under the guidance of literature and translation expert doc. Mgr. Monika Šavelová, PhD., from the Department of Translation Studies FA CPU workshop participants had a unique opportunity to penetrate the world of non-traditional, lesser-known literary genres and discover new ways of literary expression. Literary genres that use non-traditional forms and structures generally have the potential to develop creativity and creative thinking.

Doc. Mgr. Monika Šavelová, PhD. first presented individual literary forms and their specifics, and at the same time she also opened a discussion about their (un)translatability.  During the workshop, she also accompanied the participants through the process of creating original texts. Students had the opportunity to try writing experimental texts, visual poems and other literary forms that combine text with visual elements. The results of creative activity are literary forms such as calligrams, acrostics, or lipograms in English and Slovak.
Students' works of art will be published in the university journal EnJoY, which represents a student platform and provides a space for undergraduates to share their thoughts, ideas, own research, or artwork.

Thus, the creative workshop "The Art of Words" offered not only a space for education, but also for self-expression and creative experimentation. Organizers from the Department of English Language and Culture believe that such activities contribute to the development of students' creativity and critical thinking, and at the same time inspire them to further progress in their studies.
