Lecture by the FSŠ pedagogue
This year, the 7th edition of the prestigious narratology conference organized by the European Narratology Network took place from September 26th to 28th in Monopoli (Italy). The conference theme was ‘Rhythm, Speed, Path: Spatiotemporal Experiences in Narrative, Poetry, and Drama’.
The only participant from Slovakia was prof. Krisztián Benyovszky, from the Institute of Hungarian Language and Literary Science, Faculty of Central European Studies, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. In his lecture entitled ‘Images of Uncertain Space and Time: The Pit and the Pendulum in the Light of Narrative and Illustration’, which was presented in the section called ‘Illustrated Stories’, Benyovszky addressed the question of visual representation of subjective temporal and spatial experience.
Using various illustrations as examples, he elucidated the specific visual elements such as colours, shapes, composition, and visual metaphors that individual artists employed to visually capture the spatial and temporal uncertainty of the narrator-protagonist in Edgar Allan Poe's short story, 'The Pit and the Pendulum.'
