Voices of KLIS graduates on English Teaching Practice
The Graduates of the Department of Language Pedagogy and Intercultural Communication (KLIS) met on Saturday, the 22nd June 2019 with their former university pedagogues under the project APVV-15-0368 Practice in the centre of the subject field didactics, subject field didactics in the centre of preparation for practice. In the premises of their Alma mater they discussed a current position of English language teachers at various types of schools. Within group work they identified the challenges of their profession, in which they articulated the displeasure with financial underassessment of teachers in general, continued with an overload with administrative paper work mainly of class teachers.
From the methodological point of view, the former graduates formulated uncertainties in the work with students with specific learning difficulties, demanding work in maintaining the attention and motivating today’s children and, last but not least, difficult communication with parents.
Despite the problems and challenges that were verbalized at the meeting, university pedagogues are very happy to see that our graduates teach English language in educational institutions, in the public or private sector. At the same time, they develop and disseminate the philosophy of teaching English language that was initiated during their studies at the university when being prepared for their teaching profession.
