Our University and Jaguar Land Rover has started the cooperation
On May 25th, 2019 on the occasion of the World Environment Day, the representatives of Jaguar Land Rover Slovakia and Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra prof. RNDr. František Petrovič, PhD. signed co-operation agreement on biomonitoring and biodiversity protection in the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Nitra.
Experts from the Faculty will regularly carry out biomonitoring of selected species of small animals in the area. The plant is located near the Zobor Hills, Lupka Nature Reserve and the Nitra river, which are important sources of biodiversity. In its surroundings live animal species which are typical for a hilly and open type landscape. The prepared ecological areas in the plant will consist of original species of shrubs, meadow herbs and grasses and will create habitats for insects and small vertebrates. They will also include water areas – drinkers for birds and amphibians, as well as special stone piles designed for reptiles. These green zone will increase biodiversity of the area, creating optimal conditions for shelters, breeding and natural life of animals.
Supporting the breeding of birds of prey and owls will be another project benefit. “Predators are a natural and biologically safe way to protect this area. T-shaped wooden ´small crutches´ will be installed in the outdoor areas of the plant, allowing them to have a view and space for hunting, especially small rodents,” as explained by Prof. Mgr. Ivan Baláž PhD., Zoologist of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences of CPU. The project will be conducted under his leadership over the next two years. When doing our business we take into account the conditions of the environment where our production facilities are based. "We appreciate the cooperation with the experts from Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, whose expertise will be a valuable asset in promoting conditions favourable to the original fauna and flora,” said Ladislav Halász, Environmental Manager.
