Professor from the University of Ottawa lecturing at UKF Nitra
Prof. Gary Slater from the University Research Chair in Biological Physics of the prestigious University of Ottawa, visited UKF Nitra from 8 – 12 April, 2019. The visit took place within the project of the Internationalization of the Education Process and Academic Environment at UKF Nitra.
He had been invited by Dr. Martina Pavlikova, the Vice-Rector for International Relations, during her research stay at the University of Ottawa in August 2018.
Prof. Slater gave a lecture to PhD students entitled ´Canada: University Research and Graduate Education in Globalized World´ and he talked to PhD students and staff of the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences on ´How do we Read DNA?! The Impact of Physics in Quantitative Biosciences´.
Prof. Gary Slater toured the Molecular Biology Laboratory of UKF, which is a specialized facility of the Department of Botany and Genetics (Faculty of Natural Sciences) researching biological processes at the level of DNA, RNA, proteins, cells and tissues. He also visited the Thermophysical Laboratory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences which primarily studies processes in the heat treatment of different ceramic materials.
The lecture was supported by the UKF Rectorate´s Department of International Relations in cooperation with the Dean´s Offices of the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Education at UKF Nitra.
