Lecture by Dr Ambalek on Berisso City, Argentina
On April 17, 2019 Dr Juan Carlos Ambalek gave a lecture entitled ´Berisso – the Capital of Immigrants´ in the Conference Hall of UKF. The event was held under the auspices of the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. František Petrovič, the Dean of the Faculty of Central European Studies, Dr. habil. Žofia Bárcziová, and the Head of the Central European Research Institute of Søren Kierkegaard in Nitra, Prof. Roman Kralik. The lecture was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Dr. Martina Pavlikova.
The lecture highlighted the history of Slovaks in Argentina and their lives. Notwithstanding the fact that they basically started their lives in extremely difficult conditions, they were able adapt to the situation.
Special gratitude goes to both the lecturer and his audience – the students – who attended the late afternoon lecture. The lecture – which was made possible thanks to the support of H. E. Branislav Hitka, the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Argentina and Ms Fabiana Datko (Universidad Nacional de la Plata) – reflects the good relationships between UKF and universities in Argentina.
At the end of the lecture Dr Ambalek presented a gift – the book and the flag of Berisso – to UKF representatives. The lecture was simultaneously interpreted by Martin Štúr, associate professor from the Department of Roman Studies.
