Ongoing cooperation with Beloit College
The university project Erasmus+ provided Mgr. Elena Kováčiková, PhD., from the Department of Language Pedagogy and Intercultural Studies (KLIŠ) of the Faculty of Education, with the opportunity to take part in the exchange teaching mobility in the USA, at Beloit College, Wisconsin. Her visit was part of the ongoing successful cooperation that began with a two-week stay of KLIŠ lecturers in February 2018. In the period from 29th March until 12th April 2018, Mgr. Elena Kováčiková, PhD. was actively involved in lessons and discussions with the students in the seminars of English and American literature, History, Culture, and Citizenship. At the same time she gave lectures on topics from the methodology of teaching English as a foreign language, she introduced Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), and the interconnections of teaching a language through music. One of the highlights of the stay was a visit to the prestigious language school WESLI in Madison and also the bilingual Spanish and English Primary School – Todd, in Beloit, with an immersion programme. The teaching mobility in Beloit College has become beneficial for the practice, mainly for the implementation of critical thinking strategies and the current need for reading skills development at all levels of schools.
