CPU in Nitra hosted representatives of top EMT network universities
Representatives of the European master's in translation study programs network met at an international meeting in Nitra on 18 October 2016, at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra (CPU in Nitra). The meeting was timed to coordinate with the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Among all of the member universities holding the prestigious European Master's in Translation, our universitya was selected as the university organizer. The Faculty of Arts, in cooperation with the Directorate-General for Translation of the EC, welcomed representatives of nearly 70 of top universities from 23 countries of the European Union on.
In 2011, the Department of Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts of the CPU in Nitra became a member of the EMT network. This international acknowledgment conferred the prestigious quality EMT label. Since then, on the basis of strict international assessment, CPU in Nitra – as the only university in Slovakia – is included in the network of top European universities which provide the master's degree in translation study programs.
A pleasant surprise and significant point of the event was special recognition for prof. PhDr. Edita Gromová, CSc. The Association of Translation Companies of Slovakia recognized her long-term cooperation in the field of education and practice. The Department of Translation Studies was represented by Emília Perez, PhD., head of the department, and two students Eva Maťová and Jana Ukušová. They presented a paper on the popular issue of audio-visual translation. The paper detailed their experiences with subtitling for international film festivals, putting theory into practice.
The second day, 19th October, was dedicated to terminology. The twelfth session of Slovak Terminology Network Conference took place at Faculty of Arts. This event focused on the language challenges in the area of energy and its specific solutions. The conference was being translated for foreign attendees by students of the Department of Translation Studies, CPU in Nitra.
