Summer School of Archaeology 2016
In the period from 18th July to 12th August 2016 Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra performed the seventh year of the International Summer School of Archaeology in the castle Pustý Hrad near Zvolen and Peťuša castle. This season brought also exploration of a new archeological site Bakova jama near Zvolen where the primeval settlement was anticipated to be revealed.
This project was intended not only for students of archaeology, but to all those interested in history and those who wanted to endeavor to its investigation by own hands. The aim of the summer school was to provide professional field practice in the research of archaeological sites studied for scientific purposes under the expert supervision of staff and PhD students of the Department of Archaeology and international guest teachers. Within the project free full board and free accommodation in student dormitories in Zvolen for all participants during the whole stay was provided. Part of the Summer School of Archaeology consisted of lectures offered by experts from abroad (Czech Republic and Poland) and workshops on various archaeological methods and techniques (Archaeobotany, 3D documentation, photographic documentation, pedological probing, etc.). After completion of the summer school each participant of the project received a certificate and a T-shirt with the logo of summer school to commemorate the attendance within the project. Besides the Slovak participants, this season project welcomed foreign students from Czech Republic (University of Hradec Králové), Hungary (Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest) and Poland (University of Warsaw), too.
