Opened on  July 4, 2016 by the international scientific conference „FOLK DANCE AND MUSIC IN RESEARCH, THEORY AND SCENIC PRACTICE“ the fortieth edition of the international festival known as ACADEMIC NITRA  introduced the residents, visitors and tourists of the city of Nitra into a week packed with attractive theatre performances and cultural activities.

The international festival ACADEMIC NITRA 2016 was organized by the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic under the auspices of the President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska, in the premises of the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, in the city of Nitra and in the Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra.

Based on the longstanding tradition and very positive reviews on the academic festival of the folk ensembles the organizers welcomed participation of 11 finest Slovak and 5 foreign academic ensembles operating at colleges and universities with which the Slovak ensembles have been in contact for many years. They all gave performances within two brilliant competition evenings and in a final Gala program evening.

The rich programme took place not only in Nitra but also in neighbouring villages with local and international drama groups´ performances, and climaxed in a festival parade through the city of Nitra on 10th July 2016.
