Comenius COMPASS project awarded by the European Commission
The European Commission has assessed Comenius project - 503635-LLP-1-2009-1-DE-CO: “COMPASS - Common problem solving strategies and the links between mathematics and science, Mathematics and science-oriented subjects are linked by joint problem-solving strategy”, as one of the most successful projects supported during the years 2009 - 2015. The project was coordinated by the University of Education in Freiburg which received the commendatory letter from the European Commission. At Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra the project manager was PaedDr. Janka Medová - Melušová, PhD. and in the project several departments of our Faculty of Natural Sciences, as well as teachers and students of Párovská Secondary Grammar School in Nitra joined together in fruitful cooperation.
Learning materials produced within the project are used in the preparation of future teachers of mathematics and are also popular in training programmes focused on continuing education of teachers. Besides that, COMPASS project materials are included in the database of the 7th FP PRIMAS. Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences prepared and organized video-conference as an innovative activity of the project which was attended by project team members and students of Párovská Secondary Grammar School in Nitra and secondary schools in Manchester (United Kingdom) and Utrecht (Netherlands). Students shared their experiences in implementation of the project activities which they evaluated as very interesting and fruitful in relation to knowledge and competences in educating in mathematics and science-oriented subjects.
